The Compassion Project’s resource, the Emotional Support for Mothers Toolkit embraces and supports all mothers in all of their experiences. Grounded in the reality of day-to-day parenting, it supports mothers to meet the full joy and catastrophe of motherhood with greater confidence and ease.

The toolkit aims to provide the missing piece of modern mothering with a practical how-to for nervous system support, emotional self-regulation, resilience and wisdom. Specifically designed for busy, overwhelmed mothers it includes 100+ simple practices for a range of emotions and experiences that can be done from home in 5 minutes or less.

Toolkit Includes:

  • 66-card deck with high-quality, durable cards printed on thick 350gsm stock
  • 200-page soft-cover guidebook
  • Beautiful flip-top keepsake box with a soft-laminated finish to store both the card deck and guidebook

How to use the toolkit:

It can be incorporated into daily self-care rituals or wellbeing check-ins, support your personal development journey, or it can simply be a tool to turn to during difficult times. Simply draw a card from one of  the five emotion categories in the card deck—overwhelm, anxiety, anger, sadness or shame to access:

  • Emotional first-aid practices that quickly calm your nervous system
  • Simple, supportive practices to help you meet and move through your specific emotions and challenges
  • Mindfulness practices to take you from the heat of the moment to the heart of the moment

Parenting programs teach the importance of maintaining a calm, patient and loving presence in our children’s lives. But they don’t teach us how to regulate our emotions in the heat of the moment—or what to do when we inevitably fail to be a perfectly calm, and patient mother.

Mental health note

This resource is not a replacement for qualified mental health care. It is intended for people who are in an emotionally resourced place in their lives and can safely self-lead their emotional exploration. While this resource has been thoughtfully developed to be sensitive to trauma and a range of emotional experiences, if you are receiving mental health care we recommend discussing it with your care provider to determine whether it would be a safe and appropriate addition to your treatment and care.
